Moscow: Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov issued a stern warning on Tuesday, stating that any participation by the UK in military strikes against Russia would be considered an act of war, with significant consequences.
According to Anadolu Agency, Lavrov emphasized in an interview with Vesti that Russia reserves the right to respond if its interests or property are threatened. "If someone were to encroach on our interests, on our property, we would have the same right to regard the proudly declared direct participation of British missile forces in strikes against the Russian Federation as participation in a war, with all the ensuing consequences," Lavrov asserted.
His remarks came in the wake of a report by The Times, which revealed that Ukrainian forces have utilized drones manufactured by two British companies to conduct strikes deep within Russian territory over the past six months. These attacks have reportedly targeted oil refineries in Volgograd and near Moscow, as well as logistics hubs. Additionally, the strikes have impacted transport infrastructure and sites belonging to Wildberries, Russia's largest online retailer.
The Russian Embassy further accused the UK of being an accomplice to what it termed Ukrainian "terrorist attacks," warning that the increasing support from London for Kyiv would lead to repercussions. "The deeper the involvement in the conflict and the greater the support for Kyiv's terrorist machine, the higher the price will be," the embassy stated.
In response, British Prime Minister Andy Burnham reaffirmed the UK's unwavering support for Ukraine. During a visit to Wolverhampton, Burnham told journalists that the UK would continue to "support Ukraine 100%," underscoring that successive British governments have consistently maintained this stance throughout the ongoing conflict.
