Beirut: One person was injured Saturday in an Israeli drone strike targeting a vehicle in southwestern Syria, according to Syrian media. Al-Ikhbariya TV reported that the drone struck the vehicle in the town of Beit Jinn, located in the western countryside of Damascus. The report did not specify the identity or condition of the injured individual.
According to Anadolu Agency, Syrian authorities have remained silent on the incident, and Israel has neither confirmed its target nor explained the motive behind the strike. The attack coincides with ongoing Syrian efforts to negotiate a security agreement with Israel.
Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa stated on July 26 that Damascus was engaged in discussions with multiple countries to secure such an agreement. He expressed hope that a successful agreement could lead to comprehensive peace without Syria relinquishing its claim to the Golan Heights, a region largely occupied by Israel since 1967.
Following the collapse of the Bashar al-Assad regime in late 2024, Israel declared the 1974 disengagement agreement void and expanded its presence into the demilitarized buffer zone and additional areas, including the Syrian side of Mount Hermon (Jabal al-Sheikh).
