Sanaa: Yemeni authorities reported the discovery of a naval mine planted by the Houthi group in the strategically important Bab al-Mandab Strait. The mine was identified and neutralized by a naval unit associated with the National Resistance Forces, which supports the Yemeni government.
According to Anadolu Agency, the official Saba news agency cited an unnamed military source stating that the naval unit successfully eliminated the threat posed by the Iran-backed Houthi militia. The mine was located in a critical section of the international shipping lane, where it was disabled and necessary measures were taken to ensure maritime safety.
The presence of the mine is considered a significant escalation of Houthi threats to navigation security in a crucial global maritime corridor. The Houthis have not provided any comments regarding this incident.
Earlier in the day, the National Resistance Forces announced the destruction of a Houthi-operated bomb-laden boat in the Bab al-Mandab area. Details about this operation were not disclosed.
The ongoing conflict in Yemen began when the Houthis seized control of the capital Sanaa and other regions in 2014, leading to the intervention of a Saudi-led coalition in support of Yemen's internationally recognized government in March 2015.
