Macron Condemns Russian ‘Terror Tactics’ and Pledges Support for Ukraine

Paris: French President Emmanuel Macron declared on Saturday that Russia is attempting to "break Ukraine through terror" after a devastating "double strike" on a shopping center in Kryvyi Rih, Ukraine. The attack resulted in numerous civilian casualties, intensifying the ongoing conflict between the two nations.

According to Anadolu Agency, Macron took to US social media platform X to express his condemnation of the Russian actions, stating, "Russia seeks to break Ukraine through terror: it will not succeed. United alongside Ukraine, we will ensure that law and justice prevail over force." Macron revealed he had spoken with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy post-attack, sharing his "horror" and "emotion" over the events.

Macron accused Russia of escalating its aggression by systematically targeting civilians, suggesting that such tactics reveal an underlying weakness rather than strength. In response, he committed to bolstering France's support for Ukraine by supplying interceptors and continuing cooperation under the Anti-Missile Coalition. Macron also urged other capable nations to join this effort to counteract Russian aggression.

President Zelenskyy acknowledged the conversation on X, highlighting an agreement to expedite the delivery of advanced French military equipment and missiles. He expressed gratitude for France's readiness to provide licenses for missile production and mentioned discussions on diplomatic efforts with Ukraine's partners, including communication with US President Donald Trump's team.

The dialogue between the two leaders also covered the necessity of securing funding for Ukraine's defense in the upcoming years and speeding up bilateral defense agreements. Zelenskyy emphasized the importance of France's role in facilitating communication with other partners who possess essential missiles for Patriots.

Macron underscored the need for sustained pressure on Russia until it ceases hostilities. He also mentioned the preparations for an upcoming "coalition of the willing" meeting scheduled for Monday, focusing on achieving peace while respecting Ukraine's rights and ensuring security guarantees for both Ukraine and Europe.
