Lithuania: Lithuania declared a nationwide 'extreme situation' after a severe weekend storm wreaked havoc on crops, livestock, and agricultural infrastructure, as reported by public broadcaster LRT.

According to Anadolu Agency, Agriculture Minister Kestutis Mazeika announced that the emergency measure would assist farmers in meeting their obligations. It also facilitates the government's efforts to seek aid from the European Commission and utilize state reserve funds to mitigate the losses incurred.

Preliminary evaluations reveal that western Lithuania bore the brunt of the storm, with crop damage ranging between 30% and 60% in some locales. Approximately 56,000 hectares (138,379 acres) of crops are believed to have been impacted, Mazeika disclosed.

Power outages further compounded losses, affecting livestock, poultry, and mushroom farms, while communication disruptions have impeded a comprehensive assessment of the storm's damage. Four municipalities have already declared emergencies, Mazeika noted, with storm-related damage reported in other areas as well.
