Tehran: The US naval blockade imposed on Iran created 'very exceptional and unique' conditions for running the country during the war, Tehran Governor Mohammad-Sadeq Motamedian said Saturday. Speaking on a television program, Motamedian said Iran had faced intensified sanctions alongside attacks on the country's infrastructure and the naval blockade, according to the Iranian Students' News Agency (ISNA).

According to Anadolu Agency, Motamedian emphasized the challenges Iran faced under the blockade, highlighting the strain on the nation's infrastructure, particularly in Tehran, which was a primary target of US-Israeli attacks. He revealed that more than 1,200 electricity infrastructure sites across Tehran province were attacked during the conflict, but authorities managed to restore services swiftly. Water, telecommunications, and gas infrastructure were also damaged but quickly repaired.

Motamedian noted that sanctions against Iran were heightened during the war, compounding the economic pressure on the country. The US-Israeli war against Iran, which began on February 28, saw military, nuclear, and infrastructure sites across Iran targeted, prompting Tehran to retaliate with missile and drone strikes against Israeli and US military facilities.

The conflict extended to the maritime domain, with the US imposing a naval blockade on Iran, while Tehran restricted passage through the Strait of Hormuz, a vital energy corridor. On June 18, Iran and the US reached a memorandum of understanding aimed at ending hostilities. This arrangement included provisions addressing the US naval blockade and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. However, tensions later resurfaced, as the implementation of the agreement remained a contentious issue between Tehran and Washington.
