Bank of Canada Maintains Policy Rate at 2.25%

Ottawa: The Bank of Canada (BoC) kept its policy rate unchanged at 2.25% for the seventh consecutive meeting. In a statement, the bank revealed that the decision to maintain the policy rate was influenced by the alignment of the economy and inflation with expectations.

According to Anadolu Agency, the bank's statement specified that the overnight rate remained at 2.25%, with the bank rate at 2.5% and the deposit rate at 2.2%. The ongoing conflict in the Middle East was highlighted as a factor contributing to elevated energy prices.

The statement also noted a global rise in long-term bond yields, including in Canada, and observed that recent data generally support the view of a broad-based recovery in the Canadian economy. The BoC's last adjustment to its interest rate occurred in October 2025, when the policy rate was reduced from 2.5% to 2.25%.
