Puerto Rico Triumphs Over Trkiye 75-71 in Decisive FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup Match

Istanbul: Trkiye suffered a 75-71 defeat to Puerto Rico on Monday in their final Group C game at the FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup, ending their hopes of advancing to the next phase.

According to Anadolu Agency, Trkiye held a narrow 20-19 lead after the first quarter and maintained its advantage at halftime, going into the break up 40-37. They extended their lead in the third quarter and entered the final period with a 58-51 advantage.

However, Puerto Rico started the fourth quarter with an 8-0 run to snatch a 59-58 lead, prompting Trkiye to call a timeout. The timeout failed to halt the momentum, with the lead growing to 67-60 with 3 minutes and 28 seconds remaining.

Trkiye fought back late, as Olcay Cakir's 3-pointer cut the deficit to three points at 71-68 with 24 seconds remaining. While Trkiye committed tactical fouls to stop the clock, Puerto Rico made no mistakes from the free-throw line to secure the 75-71 victory.

Arella Guirantes led Puerto Rico with 21 points, while Trinity San Antonio added 18. For Trkiye, Sevgi Uzun finished with 18 points, six rebounds, and eight assists. The loss left Trkiye with three defeats from three games in Group C and eliminated them from the tournament, while Puerto Rico will play a qualification game to advance to the quarterfinal, facing off against the winner of the China-Italy game for second place in Group D.
