Trump Rejects Iran’s Proposal in Indirect New York Talks

New York:US President Donald Trump stated that he has rejected Iran's latest proposal during recent indirect negotiations held in New York, as reported by Axios.

According to Anadolu Agency, these discussions occurred on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, with Qatari officials facilitating communication between US and Iranian representatives. US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner engaged in talks with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi.

Iran's proposal included reopening the Strait of Hormuz and resuming nuclear negotiations within a week, contingent on the US lifting its naval blockade, removing sanctions on Iranian oil sales, and reinstating a regional ceasefire. However, US negotiators informed Iran that Tehran lacks control over the strait and cannot make such demands.

Despite the rejection, a US official noted that 'positive and constructive' discussions with Tehran are ongoing, involving regional mediators such as Turkey and Qatar, although significant differences remain on key issues.
