Flydubai Co-Pilot in Cockpit Attack Had No Ties to Royal Air Maroc

Ankara:Royal Air Maroc: The airline has denied any employment relationship with the Flydubai co-pilot accused of attempting an attack aboard flight FZ1073 from Dubai to Tel Aviv.

According to Anadolu Agency, Royal Air Maroc issued a statement refuting claims that the co-pilot had previously worked for the Moroccan airline. The statement clarified that the individual "has never worked as part of its crews or performed any professional duties within the company," and noted that although he applied for a job in 2025, his application was rejected.

The incident on the Flydubai flight involved the co-pilot attempting a 'terrorist act' by attacking the captain with a crash axe. UAE Attorney General Hamad Saif al-Shamsi stated that the co-pilot tried to seize control of the aircraft using the axe, which is an emergency tool kept in the cockpit.

Flydubai reported that the crew managed to secure the aircraft following an "altercation" in the flight deck, and the flight was safely diverted to Saudi Arabia. Despite the ongoing investigation, the UAE authorities have not yet released the co-pilot's name or nationality.
