Istanbul Airport Maintains Position as Europe’s Busiest Hub

Istanbul:Istanbul Airport continued to lead as Europe's busiest airport, with an average of 1,587 daily flights between September 21-27, as reported by the European Organization for the Safety of Air Navigation (EUROCONTROL).

According to Anadolu Agency, the latest European Aviation Overview from EUROCONTROL highlighted Istanbul Airport as the top airport in the region for combined arrivals and departures. Following Istanbul, Amsterdam Schiphol recorded 1,423 daily flights, Paris Charles de Gaulle had 1,384, Frankfurt 1,359, and London Heathrow 1,324.

Although Istanbul Airport saw a 1% decrease in traffic from the previous week due to a dip in domestic activity, the numbers remained mostly unchanged compared to the same period in 2025. Turkey's Transport and Infrastructure Minister, Abdulkadir Uraloglu, emphasized in a social media post that Istanbul Airport continues to uphold its leading status in Europe, attributing this to ongoing infrastructure enhancements that solidify its role as a global air transport hub.

The report also placed Istanbul Airport seventh in the world for average daily departures, with Amsterdam ranking tenth. Across Europe, the average number of daily flights was 35,279 during the period, experiencing a 1.1% decrease from the previous week but a 2.9% increase year-over-year.
