Ankara:Jeff Bezos, the CEO of Amazon and founder of Blue Origin, announced that the United States is planning to establish a permanent and economically sustainable presence on the Moon. Bezos emphasized that this approach differs from the temporary missions of the Apollo era.
According to Anadolu Agency, Bezos highlighted that modern efforts will focus on reducing costs and creating a real, sustainable lunar base. He noted the importance of developing routine cargo delivery systems as a precursor to crewed landings, with the goal of placing humans on the Moon by 2028.
He stressed the importance of the US maintaining a competitive edge over China in lunar exploration, stating that it is crucial for Washington to reach the Moon before Beijing. He also pointed out that the Moon serves as a strategic point for future missions to Mars due to its logistical advantages.
Blue Origin is playing a pivotal role in NASA's Artemis program by developing the Human Landing System for the Artemis V mission, which aims to transport astronauts to the Moon's surface.
On the topic of artificial intelligence, Bezos advocated for targeted oversight of harmful applications rather than broad regulations on foundational technologies. He argued that regulation should focus on malicious uses rather than the tools themselves.
