Las Vegas:A'ja Wilson, center for the Las Vegas Aces, has claimed her fifth Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA) Most Valuable Player (MVP) award for the 2026 season, making history as the first player to win the title three consecutive times.
According to Anadolu Agency, the 30-year-old American has extended her record for the most MVP awards, having previously won in 2020, 2022, 2024, and 2025. This season, Wilson averaged 26.2 points, 9.4 rebounds, and 3.2 assists per game, with her scoring average ranking second in WNBA history behind her own record of 26.9 points per game set in 2024.
Wilson is also the first player in league history to average at least 25 points per game while shooting 50% or better from the field and 40% or better from three-point range. Her performance helped the Las Vegas Aces finish the regular season strongly with seven consecutive victories, securing a 31-13 record and the No. 3 seed in the playoffs.
Despite her achievements, the Aces are facing elimination in their semifinal series against the Golden State Valkyries, trailing 2-0 in the best-of-five series. Wilson has decided to focus on the upcoming Game 3, opting out of a planned pregame ceremony in her honor, stating, "I love the fans, but I will not be doing that. I will be warming up with my team. ... Everyone in this room knows how much of a competitor I am and what my main focus is."
