Turkish Football Federation Parts Ways with Head Coach Montella

Jakarta:The Turkish Football Federation has announced the departure of head coach Vincenzo Montella following the national team's exit from the World Cup and a series of defeats in the UEFA Nations League.

According to Anadolu Agency, Montella's tenure ended after a string of disappointing performances, including Turkey's elimination from the 2026 FIFA World Cup group stage after losing two out of three matches. The team also endured four consecutive losses in UEFA Nations League A, facing defeats against France, Belgium, and Italy twice. This marked Turkey's first four-match losing streak in competitive fixtures in 38 years.

Montella, who took charge of the Turkish national team in September 2023 after Stefan Kuntz, led the team to the quarterfinals of UEFA Euro 2024 and secured qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

In its statement, the federation also mentioned changes in its leadership, noting that its Executive Committee will stay in office until the next ordinary general assembly, when elections are scheduled to take place. No successor to Montella has been announced yet.
