Flash Floods Cause Widespread Damage in Central Nepal

Gorkha:A flash flood in the Budhi Gandaki River swept away approximately 35 to 40 houses in central Nepal's Gorkha district on Sunday, affecting the Chumnubri and Dharche rural municipalities.

According to Anadolu Agency, the flood caused significant damage, including the destruction of homes, bridges, and infrastructure at a hydropower project. It inundated settlements, putting additional homes at risk. The bridge connecting Nyakchet and Philim Bazaar in Chumnubri-3 was also washed away, as reported by Home Minister Sudan Gurung.

Rescue operations involved helicopters for relief distribution and evacuations, as river levels continued to rise. Nepal Police, the Armed Police Force, and local authorities were actively engaged in rescue and relief efforts.

The cause of the flash flood and the full extent of the damage are under investigation. Preliminary reports suggest a landslide occurred above Siuribas. Fortunately, no casualties have been reported, according to Gorkha Chief District Officer Dharmendra Kumar Mishra.

Authorities are using loudspeakers to warn residents along the river, urging them to relocate to safer areas.
