Russia Engages in Talks with US on Ukraine Energy Ceasefire

Moscow:Russia is actively engaged in discussions with the United States about a potential energy ceasefire in Ukraine, a matter highlighted by US President Donald Trump last week, According to Kremlin.

According to Anadolu Agency, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov confirmed that these discussions are ongoing and explained that a diesel agreement between Moscow and Washington, unveiled after a phone call between Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin, is separate from the ceasefire talks. Peskov described this diesel agreement as a mutually beneficial deal that serves the interests of both countries and global energy markets, while indicating that European countries might attempt to obstruct the arrangement.

Peskov also addressed Russia's position in the global market, emphasizing the nation's competitive products, and mentioned that Russia was unaware of reports about potential changes in US intelligence sharing with Kyiv or any US- and European-proposed peace plans for Ukraine. Additionally, he noted that it was premature to discuss compensation for financial losses suffered by Yandex users due to recent attacks on its data centers by Ukraine.

On Sunday, Trump announced via his Truth Social platform that Russia and Ukraine had agreed to a ceasefire targeting each other's energy infrastructure. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressed willingness to halt strikes on Russian oil refineries if Russia stopped attacking Ukraine's energy infrastructure, emphasizing the need for reciprocal actions and guarantees. Peskov stated that while the Kremlin had no immediate comment on the proposed halt, talks with the US continue.
