Houthis Claim to Shoot Down Saudi Helicopter Near Yemen Border

Accra:Yemen's Houthi group stated that it shot down a Saudi Apache military helicopter near the Najran region in southern Saudi Arabia. The incident reportedly occurred while the helicopter was targeting Houthi positions.

According to Anadolu Agency, Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Saree announced that the helicopter was downed during what he described as "hostile operations" against Houthi positions along the border. There has been no immediate response from Saudi officials regarding these claims.

This development comes amid ongoing military tensions in Yemen, with the Houthis carrying out strikes against Saudi Arabia since July. These attacks have targeted civilian aviation facilities and energy infrastructure within the kingdom. The conflict in Yemen has persisted since the Houthis took control of Sanaa and several provinces in 2014, leading to a Saudi-led coalition's intervention in support of Yemen's internationally recognized government. The recent surge in hostilities followed the collapse of a truce established in 2022.
