Israeli Airstrikes and Artillery Target Southern Lebanon Amid Military Advances

Habbariyeh:Beirut Israeli airstrikes and artillery shelling targeted southern Lebanon on Thursday as Israeli military forces advanced toward the town of Habbariyeh in the Al-Arqoub area.

According to Anadolu Agency – English, Israeli warplanes struck the town of Kfar Tebnit in the Nabatieh district, while artillery fire targeted the areas of Mansouri and the Bayut al-Sayyad farm south of Tyre. Additionally, Israeli artillery shelled Wadi Zibqin and the area between Beit Yahoun and Baraachit in the Bint Jbeil district overnight.

In Habbariyeh, Israeli artillery fired six consecutive shells as a military force, including around 20 soldiers and four tanks, advanced toward the Nabaa al-Khoukh area on the town's outskirts. This force opened machine-gun fire while conducting searches in the area, and four Merkava tanks were observed maneuvering around Nabaa al-Khoukh.

An Israeli drone also dropped a stun grenade near a fishing boat off Al-Amiriya, though there were no immediate reports of casualties from this incident.

These attacks coincide with ongoing military technical meetings between Beirut and Tel Aviv, which began on Tuesday in Florida under American sponsorship. The meetings aim to review the implementation of a framework agreement that calls for a gradual Israeli withdrawal from occupied Lebanese territory in exchange for the deployment of the Lebanese army and the disarmament of armed groups. The principle of pilot areas for implementation has been introduced but so far applied to only three towns in the Nabatieh district, while more than 50 towns remain occupied.

Despite the agreement, Israeli attacks have persisted, resulting in significant casualties and displacement since March 2. The conflict has led to the deaths of at least 4,386 people, injuries to 12,407 others, and the displacement of over one million individuals. Israeli forces have also made territorial advances, moving approximately 10 kilometers into Lebanese territory during the latest conflict.
