Iranian Parliament Speaker Meets Supreme Leader Amid US-Israel Tensions

Tehran:Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf met with Supreme Leader Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei to discuss the current military, economic, and information warfare developments involving the United States and Israel, as reported by Fars News Agency.

According to Anadolu Agency – English, the meeting was centered on strengthening Iran's national capabilities, maintaining social cohesion and national unity, and enhancing cooperation between the government and parliament to address economic and livelihood challenges. Additionally, both parties emphasized the importance of advancing relations with Iran's strategic partners.

Qalibaf provided Khamenei with a briefing on parliamentary activities since the onset of the US-Israeli conflict against Iran on February 28. He also outlined ongoing and future plans to address various challenges facing the country. This meeting marks a rare reported encounter involving Khamenei, who has not made a public appearance since succeeding his father, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, in March.

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian previously mentioned that he met Khamenei twice since taking office in March, including a notably lengthy meeting in August. Khamenei was appointed as Iran's supreme leader on March 8, following his father's death in US-Israeli strikes on February 28. Since assuming leadership, Khamenei has primarily communicated through written statements, leading to speculation about his condition and role in the country's decision-making process.

The recent meeting takes place amidst ongoing tensions between Tehran and Washington over security arrangements in the Strait of Hormuz and their broader conflict.
