Israeli Airstrikes and Artillery Shelling Intensify in Southern Lebanon Amid Drone Activity

Nabatieh al-Fawqa:Beirut Israeli airstrikes and artillery shelling targeted southern Lebanon on Friday, while drones flew intensively at low altitudes over the capital, Beirut, and the southern city of Tyre, as reported by Lebanese state media.

According to Anadolu Agency – English, Israeli fighter jets attacked the vicinity of Ali al-Taher hill on the outskirts of Nabatieh al-Fawqa in the Nabatieh district. Additionally, intermittent Israeli artillery shelling was reported near the town of Zawtar al-Sharqiya in the same district before noon.

In Kfar Shouba, located in the Hasbaya district, an Israeli drone dropped a stun grenade in the Khallet Zuhair area on the outskirts of the town. Furthermore, a large explosion was carried out overnight by Israeli forces in an area between Zawtar al-Sharqiya and Kfar Tebnit in the Nabatieh district. The forces also continued setting fires to wooded areas in the town of Qantara towards the Salouqi area in the Marjayoun district, as reported by the Lebanese National News Agency (NNA).

These military actions occurred after two days of US-sponsored technical military talks between Lebanon and Israel in Florida, which concluded without any announced results. Previously, a US-mediated framework agreement was reached on June 26, providing for a gradual Israeli withdrawal from occupied Lebanese territory in exchange for the deployment of the Lebanese army and the disarmament of armed groups. However, this agreement has only been applied in three southern Lebanese towns, with more than 50 towns remaining under Israeli occupation.

Despite the framework agreement, Israeli attacks on Lebanon have persisted, resulting in over 4,386 deaths and 12,407 injuries since March 2, while displacing more than 1 million people. Israel continues to occupy areas of southern Lebanon, including territories held for decades and others seized during previous conflicts.
