Kyiv:Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has expressed concerns over the delay in the approval of Patriot and NASAMS missile transfers from the United States, stating that Ukraine has been waiting for nearly a month for the decision from US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth.
According to Anadolu Agency – English, Zelenskyy took to the US social media platform X to announce that he had instructed his team to bring up the issue with Washington once more. He highlighted ongoing efforts to secure weapons supplies from the United States, Europe, and other partners, as well as discussions on restoring energy infrastructure damaged by Russian strikes.
Zelenskyy indicated that officials are preparing for the upcoming Ramstein-format meeting of Ukraine's allies. He emphasized the urgency of accelerating pending decisions, noting that each support package is a chance to save lives. He also expressed gratitude towards Ukraine's partners for expediting critical deliveries.
A recent report from The Washington Post suggested that the Trump administration had delayed the approval of Patriot air defense interceptor missile transfers necessary for Ukraine's defense against Russian missile and drone attacks. Although Hegseth has not formally rejected the transfers, he has yet to authorize them. The delay coincides with heightened tensions between Trump and Zelenskyy and worsening relations between Washington and Kyiv.
The report further mentioned that some missiles are being transferred by countries friendly to Ukraine, contingent on Hegseth's approval. Despite the delays, Hegseth has continued to authorize some US assistance to Ukraine, indicating that American support has not completely ceased. This development follows a dispute over Ukraine's dissatisfaction with reduced speeds from Elon Musk's US-based satellite service, which Zelenskyy claims has led to the loss of Ukrainian lives.
