Finland to Launch Military Space Operations Center in 2027

Tikkakoski:Finland will establish a military space operations center at the Finnish Air Force headquarters in Tikkakoski on January 1, 2027, as announced by Defense Minister Antti Hakkanen.

According to Anadolu Agency – English, the facility will manage the Finnish Defense Forces' space activities, including the development, planning, and operation of military capabilities. It will also facilitate cooperation with NATO and partner countries.

The center is set to initially employ around 20 military and civilian personnel, with plans for staffing increases over time. This initiative is part of Finland's broader efforts to enhance defense capabilities in response to the growing significance of space as an operational domain.

Finland's military space capabilities are partly based on three synthetic aperture radar (SAR) satellites acquired from the Finnish company ICEYE. The Finnish military is expected to assume operational control of the satellite system in April 2027.
