Qatari Delegation to Visit Tehran for Diplomatic Talks Amid Tensions

Tehran:A Qatari delegation is expected to arrive in Tehran on Monday night as part of ongoing diplomatic efforts to prevent a renewed conflict, as reported by Qatari newspaper Al-Araby Al-Jadeed.

According to Anadolu Agency – English, the delegation will be led by an adviser to Qatar's prime minister and foreign minister, although the official's identity and details about the meetings have not been disclosed. This visit follows consultations in Doha between an Iranian delegation and Qatari mediators.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei stated that Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi had recently visited Doha to facilitate message exchanges between Tehran and Washington, mediated by Qatar. Baghaei emphasized that the next move is up to Washington, with Iran having shortened its original seven-day proposal to a two-day process as a sign of goodwill.

Baghaei also noted that any final agreement and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz hinge on lifting the US naval blockade and meeting Iran's demands. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi highlighted the active mediation roles of Qatar and Pakistan through numerous phone calls and intensive shuttle diplomacy. Araghchi reiterated Iran's preparedness for both diplomatic and military responses, warning that any renewed military action or deception would elicit a stronger response from Iran.

These diplomatic efforts occur amid persistent tensions between Tehran and Washington regarding the US naval blockade and security in the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial channel for global energy shipments.
