Ariana Grande Criticizes White House for Song Use in Immigration Video

Washington: American singer Ariana Grande has taken issue with the Trump administration following the White House's use of one of her songs in a social media video that highlights immigration enforcement operations. The video, posted on TikTok, depicts federal agents arresting and handcuffing individuals as part of the administration's immigration crackdown, with Grande's 2024 song "Bye" playing in the background.

According to Anadolu Agency, Grande directly addressed the issue in the video's comments section, stating: "Please do not ever use my music in relation to this barbaric, inhumane, heinous nonsense." This incident marks a continuation of objections from various musicians regarding their music's association with Trump-related political messaging.

White House spokesperson Abigail Jackson defended the administration's actions, countering Grande's comments by saying, "What's actually barbaric, inhumane, and heinous are the criminal illegal aliens who have injured and murdered innocent American citizens." This defense underscores the contentious nature of the immigration policy and its enforcement, which has been a focal point of the Trump administration's agenda.

Anadolu Agency further reports that other artists, including Neil Young, John Fogerty, Phil Collins, Panic! At The Disco, and the estates of Leonard Cohen, Tom Petty, and Prince, have also objected to similar uses of their music, with some pursuing legal action. The repeated use of popular music in the administration's social media efforts illustrates a broader trend of political use of cultural products, often leading to public disputes and legal challenges.
