Azerbaijan Advocates for Gaza Crisis Resolution and Strengthens Ties with Pakistan, Tunisia at OIC Meeting

Jeddah: Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov has called for a resolution to the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and the Middle East, emphasizing the need for adherence to international law. His remarks came during the extraordinary session of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Council of Foreign Ministers in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

According to Anadolu Agency, Bayramov expressed hope for a resolution to the humanitarian situation during the holy month of Ramadan, underscoring Azerbaijan's ongoing commitment to humanitarian support for Palestinians affected by the crisis. The OIC meeting addressed the growing concerns over Gaza, with member states discussing coordinated responses and relief efforts.

On the sidelines of the meeting, Bayramov engaged in discussions with Pakistan's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, highlighting the development of the strategic partnership between Azerbaijan and Pakistan. He noted that mutual contacts are fostering this relationship based on friendship and brotherhood, with regional affairs also being a topic of their discussions.

Bayramov also met with Tunisian Foreign Minister Mohamed Ali Nafti, where both diplomats emphasized the importance of strengthening bilateral and multilateral ties and increasing mutual engagements. The discussions at the OIC session were set against the backdrop of a ceasefire and prisoner exchange agreement in Gaza, which has been in place since January 19, halting a conflict that led to significant loss of life and destruction.

The session also highlighted international legal proceedings against Israeli leaders, with the International Criminal Court having issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza. Additionally, Israel is facing a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its military actions.
