BAKU: Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev emphasized the importance of peace and cooperation in the South Caucasus, expressing concerns over Armenia's recent militarization efforts. In a late-night address to the nation, Aliyev warned that Armenia's actions could undermine regional stability and stated that Azerbaijan would not remain passive in the face of potential threats.
According to Anadolu Agency, Aliyev's remarks highlighted Azerbaijan's commitment to maintaining peace and stability in the region. He urged Armenia to reconsider its military buildup, noting that there is no justification for such actions, especially after Armenia's military defeat in 2020. Aliyev stressed that Azerbaijan has consistently sought peaceful resolutions and continues to engage in dialogue with Armenia.
Aliyev pointed out that Azerbaijan's military capabilities remain unmatched in the region, urging Armenia to abandon what he described as a dangerous path. He expressed hope that Armenia would heed his warnings and contribute to regional harmony.
Despite global conflicts, Aliyev noted that Azerbaijan enjoys peace and stability, bolstered by its strong military and economic standing. The president's address coincided with celebrations in Azerbaijan, where thousands gathered along the Caspian Sea coast in Baku to welcome the new year with fireworks.
The festivities also marked the Day of Solidarity of World Azerbaijanis, a significant national event. However, planned concerts in Baku were canceled following a tragic incident on December 25, when a plane traveling from Russia crashed near Aktau, Kazakhstan, after being fired upon in Russian airspace.
