British Prime Minister and Foreign Secretary Reaffirm Support for Ukraine

London:British Prime Minister Andy Burnham and Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband have both reiterated the United Kingdom's support for Ukraine. During a phone call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Burnham expressed solidarity with Ukraine amidst the ongoing challenges posed by recent Russian attacks. The discussion also covered sanctions on Russia and the importance of maintaining pressure on the nation.

According to Anadolu Agency, a statement from 10 Downing Street emphasized the UK's determination to enhance sanctions against Russia, building on the latest measures announced. The UK is prepared to take additional actions to further limit Russia's capacity to conduct warfare. The statement also urged Moscow to agree to an energy ceasefire to halt attacks on energy facilities, which would positively impact global markets.

In a separate meeting, Miliband met with Andrii Sybiha, Ukraine's foreign minister, in northern Ukraine. Following their talks, Miliband took to US social media company X to express the UK's steadfast support for Ukraine, stating the country's commitment to standing with Ukraine until victory is achieved.

These developments occurred against the backdrop of a recent announcement by US President Donald Trump regarding a phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin. Trump described the call as 'extremely successful,' leading to an agreement for Russia to supply significant quantities of diesel fuel to the US and global markets. Ukrainian President Zelenskyy criticized this deal, arguing that easing sanctions on Russia without a de-escalation agreement signals an "obvious weakness."
