Paris: Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi emphasized that war is "not a solution" to the Iranian nuclear issue, criticizing Israel's preemptive strikes on Iran as lacking legitimacy. Speaking at a joint news conference with French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot, Wang highlighted the potential of the Iranian nuclear issue to serve as a model for resolving international disputes through dialogue and negotiation, while lamenting its role in triggering a new Middle East crisis.
According to Anadolu Agency, Wang expressed China's regret over the current situation, reaffirming Beijing's "clear and consistent" stance. He emphasized China's commitment to Iran's repeated public declarations that it will not develop nuclear weapons. Wang called on involved parties to accelerate negotiations for a new international agreement to resolve the Iranian nuclear issue and ensure Iran's nuclear activities are under strict International Atomic Energy Agency supervision.
Wang stressed that the recent military conflict between Israel and Iran should not be repeated and criticized the US for setting a negative precedent by bombing nuclear facilities of a sovereign nation. He also linked the Iranian nuclear issue to the broader Middle East conflict, particularly the Palestinian issue, urging that it not be marginalized and advocating for the fulfillment of the Arab people's legitimate aspirations.
Wang reiterated that the two-state solution remains the only realistic way to end the cycle of turmoil in the Middle East, underscoring the necessity of addressing the Palestinian issue to achieve lasting peace in the region.
