Shanghai: China’s Defense Minister Dong Jun engaged in a crucial meeting with naval chiefs from African nations, emphasizing a ‘concept of shared destiny.’ The meeting took place in Shanghai, where Dong met with naval commanders from Nigeria, Gabon, and other African countries.
According to Anadolu Agency, the naval chiefs are visiting China to attend the 2nd Seminar on the Security Situation in the Gulf of Guinea, organized by the Chinese navy. The event has attracted heads of delegations from 18 countries, highlighting the significance of Gulf of Guinea as a vital link for China-Africa cooperation.
During the meeting, Defense Minister Dong expressed China’s willingness to collaborate with regional armed forces to promote maritime cooperation and uphold security in the Gulf of Guinea. He emphasized building a community with a shared future for the ocean, aiming to benefit the people of the region and contribute to the construction of an enduring China-Africa community.
Dong’s involvement comes amid recen
t scrutiny reported by the Financial Times regarding an investigation into a top Chinese military general, Miao Hua, a member of the Central Military Commission. The Chinese Defense Ministry, however, has dismissed these reports as unfounded, although it confirmed the probe into Miao Hua for a ‘serious violation of rules.’
The seminar and meetings underscore China’s commitment to strengthening its strategic maritime ties with African nations, while navigating through internal challenges within its military leadership.
