Erdogan Vows to Make Upcoming Period the Century of the Turkic World.

Bishkek: Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan declared at the 11th Summit of the Heads of State of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) in Kyrgyzstan’s capital, Bishkek, that Turkey will exert all efforts to make the upcoming period the Century of the Turkic World. Emphasizing the journey thus far, Erdogan acknowledged the obstacles overcome and the distance yet to be traversed.

According to Anadolu Agency, Erdogan expressed optimism that the summit would herald benefits for the Turkic World, noting the opening of peace and stability in the South Caucasus after 30 years of conflict. He also highlighted the importance of consolidating Azerbaijan’s battlefield gains in Karabakh through a peace agreement. The region, which was occupied by Armenian forces in 1991, saw Azerbaijan establish full sovereignty in September 2023 after separatist forces surrendered. However, a peace treaty between Azerbaijan and Armenia remains unsigned, and normalization of ties is pending.

estinian territories, Erdogan criticized the international community’s failure to halt what he termed a genocide in Gaza, condemning the United Nations Security Council’s inaction. He urged the Turkic world to take a decisive stance against the atrocities and inhumane actions in Gaza, where Israel’s offensive has resulted in significant loss of life and devastation.

Erdogan also discussed the Cyprus issue, emphasizing the need for the Turkic world to support a just solution based on the realities on the island. He highlighted the presence of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus as a guest of honor and observer member at the summit, expressing hope for its full membership alongside Turkmenistan in the OTS.

The Turkish president also touched on the ongoing war in Ukraine, advocating for diplomatic efforts to achieve a lasting peace. He underscored the importance of Turkic states supporting negotiations for regional stability. In relation to Afghanistan, Erdogan hinted at potential opportunities if the inte
rim administration adopts an inclusive approach.

Erdogan called for enhanced cooperation among Turkic states in various fields, citing their significant population, trade volume, and cultural heritage as strong foundations for advancements in science, energy, and transportation. He announced the conclusion of negotiations on the Digital Economy Partnership Agreement and looked forward to the operationalization of the Turkish Investment Fund.

On the energy front, he urged for reduced dependency on single sources and increased investment in renewable energy. Additionally, he highlighted the importance of the Middle Corridor Project in providing unique transportation opportunities. Erdogan also celebrated the agreement on the Common Turkic Alphabet, describing it as a historic step towards a united future for the Turkic world.
