Rabat:FIFA is expected to propose distributing more than $6 billion into global football between 2027 and 2030, a significant increase from the previously planned amount. The proposal includes each of FIFA's 211 member associations receiving $25 million over the four-year period, compared to the earlier plan of $10 million. Additionally, each of the six continental confederations would receive $99 million.
According to Anadolu Agency, FIFA plans to finance this increase by using more than $3.5 billion from its financial reserves, citing the commercial success of the expanded 48-team World Cup as a key factor. The FIFA Council is scheduled to discuss the proposal on Thursday.
If the proposal is approved, it will undergo consultations before potentially being finalized by the council in December, with the final approval required at the FIFA Congress next March. This funding increase proposal emerges amid calls for FIFA President Gianni Infantino to step down, following the collapse of the FIFA Forward Enterprise proposal. Leaders from UEFA, Concacaf, and the Asian Football Confederation have joined efforts to challenge his presidency.
The abandoned plan was aimed at attracting private investment in FIFA's commercial operations, including rights related to the World Cup. Infantino is seeking reelection at the FIFA Congress in Rabat, Morocco, next March.
