Gunmen Open Fire on Police Station in Brussels, No Injuries Reported

Brussels: Two masked men opened fire on a police station in Brussels' Anderlecht district late Friday, with at least 12 bullet holes found in the building's facade, Belgian news outlet Nieuwsblad reported.

According to Anadolu Agency, the two men arrived at the police station on Demosthenestraat at around 11.30 pm local time (2130 GMT), as captured by surveillance footage. One of the men fired multiple shots at the building using what appeared to be an AK-47-style weapon, while the other recorded the attack.

The Brussels South police zone stated that officers were alerted at around 11.40 pm local time (2140 GMT) about the gunfire directed at the police station. 'The impact on the building was visible,' the police zone mentioned. The entrance and glass doors of the station were particularly targeted during the assault.

The suspects, dressed in black and wearing masks, made their escape on a shared electric scooter. Fortunately, no injuries were reported as the police station was closed to the public at the time, although neighborhood officers were present inside.

An investigation has been launched, with the Brussels Public Prosecutor's Office appointing a ballistics expert and the Federal Judicial Police laboratory tasked with examining the scene, according to the Brussels South police zone.
