Beirut: Hezbollah announced on Friday that it had conducted seven operations targeting Israeli military positions in southern Lebanon and northern Israel. The group stated that the attacks were a response to what it described as "criminal Israeli aggression" against Lebanese cities and the southern suburbs of Beirut.
According to Anadolu Agency, the targets of these operations included Israeli forces stationed at Marj, opposite the border town of Markaba, the Khiam detention center, Khallat al-Asafir, Hammams Hill, and the settlement of Kfar Giladi in northern Israel. The Israeli military had not yet commented on Hezbollah's claims as of Friday.
These attacks are part of a broader context of Israeli operations in Lebanon that have been ongoing since March 2. These operations have reportedly resulted in 687 deaths, 1,774 injuries, and the displacement of approximately 822,000 people. The escalation of hostilities followed US and Israeli strikes on Iran on February 28, which resulted in the death of hundreds, including the former Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, leading to retaliatory actions across the region.
Hezbollah, known for its ties with Iran, had already targeted northern Israel on March 2, despite an existing ceasefire agreement in place since November 2024. This was reportedly in retaliation for ongoing Israeli attacks on Lebanese soil. In response, Israel launched airstrikes on Beirut's southern suburbs and various areas in southern and eastern Lebanon, coupled with a limited ground incursion that began on March 3.
