Tehran: Iran said Monday that it has conveyed its demands on a potential ceasefire with the United States through intermediaries, indicating that indirect contacts are ongoing with Washington to end their current conflict.
According to Anadolu Agency, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei addressed a news briefing, stating that Tehran has outlined its demands 'based on national interests' and communicated them via third parties. Baqaei emphasized that Iran has formulated its demands according to its interests and considerations, asserting their legitimacy and logic.
Baqaei further clarified that Iran's positions have been conveyed through intermediaries, describing the exchange of messages via third parties as a normal and ongoing process. He stressed that Iran's willingness to clearly state its positions should not be interpreted as a sign of retreat. Baqaei highlighted that expressing positions swiftly and courageously is not a sign of backing down, and mentioned that Iran has prepared responses to be announced when necessary.
The current conflict has seen regional tensions escalate since the US and Israel launched a joint offensive on Iran on February 28, resulting in over 1,340 casualties, including the death of then-Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. In retaliation, Iran has carried out drone and missile strikes targeting Israel, Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf countries hosting US military assets, leading to casualties, infrastructure damage, and disruption in global markets and aviation.
