Beirut: One civilian was killed and six others injured in four Israeli strikes on southern Lebanon, marking another breach of the ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon. This information was confirmed by Lebanese authorities on Saturday.
According to Anadolu Agency, an Israeli drone attack targeted a vehicle in the Bint Jbeil district of Nabatieh Governorate. This strike resulted in the death of one person and injuries to two others, as reported by Lebanon's Health Ministry through the official National News Agency (NNA). In a separate incident, an Israeli strike on a house in the Chebaa area of the Hasbaiyya district wounded another individual.
Further, two more individuals sustained serious injuries in a third attack targeting a vehicle in the town of Chaqra, also located in the Bint Jbeil district. The Health Ministry provided details on another strike that hit a civilian vehicle in Bint Jbeil, injuring one additional person.
Israeli army radio confirmed the occurrence of the four strikes in southern Lebanon, stating that the targets were Hezbollah "operatives," with one being killed. The Israeli-Lebanese conflict escalated into a full-scale war by September 2024, following initial Israeli assaults on Lebanon that began on October 8, 2023. Official data reports over 4,000 fatalities, more than 17,000 injuries, and the displacement of nearly 1.4 million individuals.
Despite the ceasefire agreement reached last November, Israeli forces have continued near-daily operations in southern Lebanon, citing Hezbollah's activities as justification. Lebanese authorities have documented around 3,000 violations of the truce by Israel, resulting in the deaths of at least 215 people and injuries to over 500 since the truce was enacted.
The terms of the ceasefire required Israel to fully withdraw from southern Lebanon by January 26, but the deadline was extended to February 18 due to Israel's non-compliance. Israeli forces maintain their presence at five border outposts, further fueling tensions in the region.
