Jordanian King Abdullah Engages with Chinese Business Leaders During Strategic Visit

Shanghai: Jordan's King Abdullah II commenced a significant visit to China, where he engaged with CEOs of prominent Chinese companies in Shanghai, as reported by the Royal Court. The discussions centered on exploring avenues for economic collaboration and sharing expertise.

According to Anadolu Agency, the king's visit comes at the invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping and occurs amid ongoing Middle East conflicts and an energy crisis. The meeting, organized by the Shanghai Council for the Promotion of International Trade, was also attended by Prince Hashem bin Abdullah and Princess Salma bint Abdullah. Abdullah emphasized Jordan's recent advancements in creating a favorable business environment, its advantageous location as a gateway to regional and global markets, and its skilled workforce.

This visit marks King Abdullah's ninth trip to China since ascending to the throne in 1999. Apart from meeting President Xi, Abdullah's itinerary includes a visit to Shenzhen. Discussions between Xi and Abdullah will cover bilateral, regional, and international issues, as stated by the Chinese Foreign Ministry. The visit is intended to contribute positively to regional peace and stability.

During his stay, Abdullah is also scheduled to meet with Chinese Premier Li Qiang and top lawmaker Zhao Leji, with his visit concluding on August 24. Diplomatic relations between China and Jordan were established in 1977, and trade between the two nations has grown to $6.7 billion, with China emerging as Jordan's leading trading partner last year.

Ahead of his visit, Abdullah expressed to Xinhua news agency that Jordan's strategic location, resources, and skilled youth, combined with China's economic prowess, technological expertise, and global influence, present opportunities for enhanced cooperation. He noted that China could utilize Jordan's position as a regional manufacturing and export hub, benefiting from its natural resources, skilled workforce, stable business climate, strategic location, and comprehensive network of trade agreements.

Furthermore, Abdullah stated Jordan's intention to collaborate with China, a key global player, to support the advancement of a two-state solution to the Palestine issue.
