Kuwait city: The Kuwaiti Defense Ministry announced on Sunday the detection of "a number of hostile drones" within the nation's airspace, amidst escalating tensions between Iran and the United States. The ministry confirmed that the drones were managed following established procedures, as stated by Colonel Staff Saud Abdulaziz Al-Atwan, a spokesperson for the ministry, in a statement shared through the Kuwaiti army's account on the social media platform X.
According to Anadolu Agency, the Kuwaiti armed forces have declared themselves "fully ready" to safeguard the nation's security and the safety of both its citizens and residents. This development comes as regional tensions have heightened following joint US and Israeli military actions against Iran on February 28. Tehran's subsequent retaliations have targeted both Israel and US allies in the Gulf region, leading to the temporary closure of the strategic Strait of Hormuz.
Efforts to de-escalate the situation resulted in a ceasefire on April 8, mediated by Pakistan, although negotiations in Islamabad did not yield a permanent resolution. The ceasefire, however, was extended by US President Donald Trump, allowing for continued diplomatic efforts in pursuit of a long-term solution to the conflict.
