Lebanese Army Forces Redeploy in South Following Israeli Incursion

Beirut: Lebanon's army redeployed its forces at several points along the southern border with Israel on Wednesday, two days after Tel Aviv launched a ground incursion into Lebanese territory. A military statement indicated that this move is a response to continued Israeli actions on multiple regions and the incursion into Lebanese territory, which it describes as a violation of international resolutions and Lebanese sovereignty.

According to Anadolu Agency, the army is maintaining coordination with the UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) and the ceasefire oversight committee to stop the Israeli attacks. The redeployment involves army forces repositioning at specific border points within their areas of responsibility, considering the limited resources available. Exceptional measures are also being taken to maintain security and prevent armed displays in different regions.

In addition to these actions, the army has strengthened its presence along the eastern border of the country in collaboration with Syrian authorities. Earlier on Wednesday, Israeli forces were seen near the main municipal building in the border town of Khiam as part of their ground incursion into southern Lebanon.

Since Monday, Israeli airstrikes in Lebanon, following rocket fire by Hezbollah, have resulted in at least 72 fatalities and nearly 450 injuries. Israel has consistently breached a ceasefire agreement with Hezbollah, originally signed in November 2024, conducting almost daily strikes that have caused significant casualties.

The offensive against Lebanon began in October 2023 and escalated into a full-scale war by September 2024, leading to over 4,000 deaths and approximately 17,000 injuries.
