Doha:Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani met with Iranian Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni in Doha to discuss regional developments and efforts to reduce tensions, as stated by the Emiri Diwan.
According to Anadolu Agency, the discussions aimed at enhancing regional and international security and stability. Momeni also engaged in talks with his Qatari counterpart about the issue of missing Iranian pilots.
Iranian state broadcaster IRIB reported that Momeni and Qatari officials agreed that a technical delegation would hold further meetings on the pilots' issue. The talks also addressed bilateral matters, including organized crime, coast guard cooperation, security issues, and efforts to combat drug trafficking.
The Iranian minister arrived in Doha on Monday, following claims by Iran that three of its pilots were detained by Qatari forces after their military aircraft were downed in Qatar's airspace in March. Doha has denied this, stating that only the remains of one Iranian pilot were recovered and handed over to Tehran, with no evidence of other pilots being detained. Qatar invited an Iranian technical team to review the search-and-rescue operations.
Furthermore, Qatar announced that efforts to mediate between Washington and Tehran are ongoing. Ibrahim Al-Hashmi from the Qatari Foreign Ministry noted that contacts and visits continue to progress discussions between the two nations. Qatar, alongside Pakistan, has been leading these mediation efforts since February, though a June agreement has yet to resolve the conflict.
