Bushehr: Russia on Saturday condemned US-Israeli missile attacks on a nuclear power plant in Bushehr, southern Iran, and expressed condolences over the death of one of its employees. In a statement, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova emphasized Moscow's efforts to inform the international community about the escalating situation around the plant, which she described as approaching a 'dangerous threshold.'

According to Anadolu Agency, the ministry cited IAEA chief Rafael Grossi, who expressed deep concern over the attack and highlighted that such critical infrastructure should never be targeted by military strikes. The statement suggested that Grossi's remarks were directly aimed at those executing the attacks, criticizing their continuous and reckless targeting of Iran's nuclear energy infrastructure, which is protected under the Non-Proliferation Treaty and Iran's comprehensive safeguards agreement with the IAEA.

Moscow condemned the 'unlawful and reckless actions' as an 'indelible stain' on the international reputation of those involved in targeting the Bushehr plant and other Iranian nuclear facilities under IAEA safeguards. Zakharova stated that these actions have severely damaged the aggressors' previous standing in terms of nuclear nonproliferation, as well as nuclear and physical security, indicating a blatant disregard for existing norms and constraints.

The ministry also expressed expectations that the damage caused by the US-Israeli strikes to the Non-Proliferation Treaty regime would be thoroughly and objectively assessed at the treaty's review conference scheduled for April 27. The statement urged for an immediate cessation of strikes on Iran's nuclear facilities, including the Bushehr plant, to prevent further escalation.

The recent attacks struck Iran's Bushehr nuclear plant and several petrochemical hubs, including the Mahshahr and Bandar Imam special petrochemical zones. The region has been on high alert since the joint US-Israeli offensive on Iran began on February 28, resulting in over 1,340 casualties, including the death of then-Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. In response, Tehran has launched drone and missile strikes targeting Israel, Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf countries hosting US military assets.
