Riyadh: Saudi Arabia on Tuesday strongly condemned a drone attack targeting the office of Masrour Barzani, prime minister of Iraq's Kurdish Regional Government (KRG), describing it as a 'blatant violation' of Iraq's sovereignty.

According to Anadolu Agency, the Saudi Foreign Ministry issued a statement reaffirming the Kingdom's rejection of 'hostile operations targeting political figures and other actions that could undermine Iraqi state institutions or destabilize the country's security and stability.' The statement emphasized Saudi Arabia's opposition to interference in countries' internal affairs, violations of sovereignty, and actions contrary to the principles of good neighborliness and international law.

The condemnation followed a drone attack that targeted Barzani's residence and private office in northern Iraq on Monday. This incident has prompted Baghdad to seek an official clarification from Tehran regarding the attack. Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein labeled the attack as 'unjustified' and a 'dangerous escalation,' urging Iran to clarify its official position on the matter.

In response, Iran denied any involvement and condemned the attack. Esmaeil Baqaei, the Foreign Ministry spokesman, described the incident as a 'highly suspicious development' and cautioned against any attempts to damage relations between Iran and Iraq.
