Senegal to Challenge AFCON Title Loss at CAS

Dakar: The Senegal Football Federation (FSF) confirmed on Wednesday that it would file an appeal with the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) after being stripped of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) title. In a statement, the Federation condemned the recent decision as "unjust, unprecedented and unacceptable," arguing that such actions bring the entirety of African football into disrepute. According to Anadolu Agency, the FSF emphasized its commitment to defending its rights and the interests of Senegalese football. The Federation announced plans to file an appeal with the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in Lausanne as soon as possible. The final match, officially recorded as a 3-0 victory for Morocco, took place on January 18 in Rabat, Morocco. It initially ended with Senegal winning 1-0 in extra time, following a chaotic stoppage late in normal time. Senegal's players had left the pitch in protest after Morocco was awarded a penalty during stoppage time while the match was goalless. After a d elay exceeding 15 minutes, play eventually resumed. Senegal missed the penalty but went on to score the winning goal in extra time. However, Morocco's football federation filed an appeal challenging the outcome, arguing that Senegal's decision to walk off the pitch constituted a breach of tournament regulations. The Confederation of African Football's (CAF) Appeal Board accepted Morocco's appeal and annulled the previous disciplinary ruling. Consequently, Senegal was declared to have forfeited the final, resulting in a 3-0 victory being awarded to Morocco.
