Small Island Appears in Lake Zurich Due to Historic Low Water Levels

Zurich:A small island has emerged in Lake Zurich as the water level has dropped to a historic low.

According to Anadolu Agency, the island is situated off the coast of Stafa, a town on the lake's eastern shore. Typically, only a rock known as the Stafner Stein is visible at this location.

The current water level of Lake Zurich is 405.24 meters (1,329 feet) above sea level, which has allowed the small land formation to rise above the surface. The island is sizable enough to accommodate a small boat and serve as a picnic spot.

This island was last seen 74 years ago when the lake experienced a previous significant low water level. It also became visible in 1909 during another period of exceptionally low water levels. A mark on the Stafa stone, indicating the water level from that time, has reappeared after being obscured for many years.

The island is expected to remain visible for some time as Lake Zurich is not anticipated to return to its normal level quickly. No extended rainfall is currently forecasted.
