Spain: Spain on Wednesday deplored US sanctions targeting officials of the International Criminal Court (ICC), including the court's president and a senior lawyer in the prosecutor's office.
According to Anadolu Agency, the Spanish Foreign Ministry issued a written statement condemning these sanctions as a direct attack on the independence, integrity, and impartiality of the ICC. The ministry emphasized that the court's authority is derived from the mandate granted by the States Parties to the Rome Statute.
The statement highlighted the ICC's crucial role in ensuring accountability for severe crimes and its contribution to victim protection and reparations. Spain expressed unwavering support for the ICC, offering full solidarity to the judges, prosecutors, and court staff affected by the sanctions.
The Spanish Foreign Ministry further confirmed that Spain remains committed to upholding its obligations under the Rome Statute and international law, ensuring the ICC's jurisdiction is fully respected and exercised.
