Sofia: Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan on Thursday said his visit to Bulgaria reaffirmed the strength of ties between the two neighboring countries and their shared commitment to advancing cooperation.

According to Anadolu Agency, Fidan expressed that the visit demonstrated the enduring bonds between Trkiye and Bulgaria, which influence not only the present but also their shared future. He communicated this sentiment on US social media company X after his visit to Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria.

Fidan highlighted Trkiye's historical, human, and cultural connections with Bulgaria, emphasizing his belief that the visit would enhance both bilateral partnerships and regional cooperation. He extended thanks to Bulgarian officials, including Foreign Minister Velislava Petrova-Chamova, for their warm hospitality and efforts in ensuring the visit's success.

During his meetings with President Iliyana Yotova, Prime Minister Rumen Radev, and Foreign Minister Petrova-Chamova, Fidan noted the potential for deepening cooperation in strategic sectors such as energy, transport, connectivity, and the defense industry. He affirmed the commitment to continue collaborating in these areas.

Fidan also expressed satisfaction in reconnecting with the Turkish community in Bulgaria, noting his longstanding familiarity with them from his time as head of the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA). He also engaged with Turkish businesspeople in Bulgaria, evaluating their contributions to the local economy and society.

The minister was pleased to witness the contributions of Turkish kin and businesspeople to Bulgaria's peace and prosperity. Additionally, attending the graduation ceremony of the Sofia Higher Islamic Institute was a significant moment for him, as he interacted with young graduates who maintain their faith, identity, and cultural heritage.

Fidan concluded by reaffirming Trkiye's determination to advance its relations with Bulgaria based on mutual respect, common interests, and good neighborliness.
