Damascus: The Syrian Foreign Ministry on Saturday expressed its approval of the recent US decision to lift sanctions on Syria, labeling it as a positive step towards alleviating the country's ongoing humanitarian and economic hardships. The ministry emphasized its willingness to collaborate with other nations based on principles of mutual respect and non-interference in Syria's internal matters.
According to Anadolu Agency, the US Treasury Department issued a general license on Friday that facilitates the immediate easing of sanctions on Syria. This move aligns with President Donald Trump's commitment to promote new investments in the country. Secretary of the Treasury Scott Bessent remarked that the Treasury and State Departments are actively working to implement measures that will foster economic growth in Syria.
During a recent Middle East tour, President Trump announced his intention to lift what he described as the 'brutal and crippling' sanctions, aiming to provide Syria with an opportunity for revival. The Treasury Department's Office of Foreign Assets Control confirmed that the general license permits previously restricted transactions under the Syrian Sanctions Regulations, effectively lifting the sanctions.
The license aims to stimulate investment and encourage private sector activities in Syria, potentially paving the way for economic recovery and rebuilding efforts.
