Ankara: The Turkish National Intelligence Organization (MIT) has successfully "neutralized" a senior PKK terrorist in an operation conducted in Tel Rifaat, Syria, as reported by security sources on Monday. The individual, Yasar Cekik, known by the codename Yasar Hakkari, joined the PKK in 1993 and has been implicated in several significant attacks over the years. According to Anadolu Agency, Cekik orchestrated the 2010 attack on the Hantepe Gendarmerie Station in Trkiye's Cukurca district, resulting in the deaths of six soldiers. Further investigations revealed his involvement in planning and ordering the 2011 terrorist assaults on the Kekliktepe base area and the Cukurca 1st Mechanized Infantry Battalion Command. These attacks led to the deaths of 24 soldiers and injury to another. MIT identified Cekik as a high-value target, listing him in the red category of the Interior Ministry's wanted terrorists list. He was sought with a red notice by Interpol for his role in terrorist activities targeting security forces in Trkiye, Iraq, and Syria. Despite being on the run, Cekik continued his terrorist activities in Syria's Shehba region. In the context of its 40-year campaign of terror against Trkiye, the PKK, which is designated as a terrorist organization by Trkiye, the US, and the EU, has been responsible for the deaths of over 40,000 individuals, including infants, women, and children.
