Trkiye’s Pivotal Role in Addressing Humanitarian Crises Amid Iran-Israel Conflict

Ankara: The aftermath of the conflict between Israel and Iran in 2025 has led to extensive humanitarian challenges, underlining the significance of Trkiye’s role as a key player in providing aid. The conflict resulted in severe damage to Iran’s infrastructure and significant economic losses in Israel, with widespread civilian casualties and mass displacements, exacerbating regional instability.

According to Anadolu Agency, the conflict resulted in the deaths of over 900 civilians in Iran and displaced approximately 2 million people, while around 18,000 civilians in Israel also faced displacement due to retaliation. The displacement crisis has further impacted neighboring regions, including Gaza, Lebanon, and Syria, which are already dealing with their own security and displacement issues.

Trkiye’s strategic position and historical precedent in providing humanitarian aid position it as a significant actor in addressing these challenges. During the Syrian Civil War, the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA) collaborated with local organizations to deliver aid to affected populations. Similarly, in Lebanon, Trkiye’s efforts during the Gaza war included providing substantial aid to displaced Lebanese populations.

In 2025, the scale of devastation due to the Iran-Israel conflict presents an opportunity for Trkiye to build on its history of humanitarian support. Trkiye’s foreign policy, based on neutrality and nonpartisanship, can ensure continued and effective humanitarian assistance. Addressing the displacement crisis is critical to preventing further regional destabilization and potential refugee flows to Europe, which could strain local economies.

Trkiye’s role as a humanitarian actor is vital in mitigating the residual effects of the conflict and preventing the emergence of multiple humanitarian crises. By going beyond emergency responses and focusing on rebuilding infrastructure and social services, Trkiye can enhance its regional influence and support ravaged communities effectively.
