Trump Considers Additional Aircraft Carrier Deployment to Middle East Amid Iran Talks

Washington: US President Donald Trump announced on Tuesday that he is contemplating sending a second aircraft carrier strike group to the Middle East, heightening pressure on Tehran during ongoing diplomatic discussions. Trump confirmed to Axios that he is "thinking" about the additional deployment, indicating that "an armada" is already on its way and another might soon follow.

According to Anadolu Agency, a US official confirmed that discussions are ongoing regarding the potential deployment of a second strike group, which would complement the USS Abraham Lincoln currently stationed in the region. Trump emphasized the binary choice facing Iran, pointing to previous US airstrikes on Iranian nuclear facilities as a precedent for potential future actions. "Either we will make a deal or we will have to do something very tough like last time," he stated.

President Trump also mentioned that he expects a second round of negotiations with Iranian officials next week, noting a shift in Tehran's engagement level. He attributed this change to his willingness to use force, suggesting that the Iranian leadership had previously underestimated his resolve. Trump expressed optimism about reaching an agreement that would address Iran's nuclear program and potentially curb its ballistic missile capabilities, describing such an accord as a "no-brainer."

Additionally, Trump addressed concerns about his relationship with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who is set to visit the White House on Wednesday. Trump dismissed any notions of friction, asserting that Netanyahu also seeks a favorable deal. Meanwhile, preparations continue for the next round of nuclear negotiations between Iran and the US, which resumed in Oman after an eight-month hiatus.

The situation remains tense as military buildup and threats of action from Washington have exacerbated relations between the US and Tehran.
