Washington: US President Donald Trump announced on Friday that he will not sign a bipartisan housing bill that was approved by Congress. He cited the Senate's inability to pass the SAVE America Act as his reason for withholding his signature.
According to Anadolu Agency, Trump expressed his decision on Truth Social, stating, "I will not sign the Housing Bill, which has been fully approved by Congress and sent to the White House, in PROTEST over the fact that the United States Senate is not capable of passing THE SAVE AMERICA ACT, which is polling at 97% with the Republican Party, and very high with the non-politician Dumocrats."
The SAVE America Act, which Trump supports, aims to mandate that Americans provide proof of citizenship when registering to vote in federal elections. Despite Trump's refusal to sign the housing bill, the US Constitution stipulates that the measure is expected to become law automatically on Saturday without his signature unless he chooses to veto it.
